Non-pipeline transport and international shipping of CO2 workshop (Cardiff, March 2026)

Non-pipeline transport (NPT) for CO₂ makes use of vehicular movements to transport captured CO₂. This potentially provides flexibility where pipelines are impractical, especially for smaller emitters or remote locations, often involving multi-modal logistics to connect sites to storage hubs or ports. Such technologies will be important for regions outside dense industrial clusters, and for regions where storage or utilisation points are remote from the emission source.

The UKCCSRC held a one-day workshop on Wednesday 25th March 2026, at the School of Engineering, Cardiff University.  The day focused on exploring some of the key challenges in NPT systems from a technological, logistical and regulatory perspective, broading the discussion in the field and examining the UK paradigm for NPT, especially in regions where connection to a national pipeline network will be unlikely.
