Research Associate in Gas-Solid Reactors for Process Decarbonisation

The Department of Chemical Engineering at The University of Manchester are seeking to recruit a Research Associate (PDRA) to work under the supervision of Dr Vincenzo Spallina.

This project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of the gas-solid process for steel decarbonisation using CCUS. The project combines experimental testing and validation of the phenomenological model to understand and predict the performance of new reactor concepts, design the experiments and carry out the technology scale-up.

You should already hold or be nearing completion of a PhD in chemical, energy and process engineering, with a focus on process integration, modelling and optimisation. You will be expected to present results periodically to the other group members, and project partners, attend progress meetings and actively engage with other team members. Previous experiences on chemical looping technology and advanced gas-solid reactor modelling are desirable and particularly welcome.
