Heriot-Watt University has a vision is to improve carbon capture sequestration (CCS) technologies to support moves towards net zero. The objective of this collaborative Knowledge Transfer Project (KTP) is to transfer knowledge of specific mathematical approaches from the academic partner at Heriot-Watt University to OpenGoSim that will enable the development of a new simulator, to inform the carbon dioxide injection process.
You will be working on challenging tasks to add new physics modelling capabilities to the simulator as well as resolving the daily issues faced by clients when simulating carbon capture and storage (CCS) and underground hydrogen storage (UHS) problems. You will work along an experienced team at OpenGoSim and have weekly meetings with the academic team from the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Heriot-Watt University. Furthermore, you will be part of the newly formed knowledge exchange centre M-DICE (Mathematics Driven Innovation Centre) at Heriot-Watt University.
This full-time position is funded by OpenGoSim (OGS) and InnovateUK. The successful appointee may work remotely (from within the UK), and the project will involve working closely with colleagues at Heriot-Watt University to enable knowledge transfer to the business. We note that, although new mathematical and algorithmic ideas will be necessary for the successful completion of the project, this is not strictly an academic research project: the key objective is the development of the specific simulator described above.
