IEAGHG’s Summer Schools are the only CCS education program with a truly international focus. With the location moving around the globe each year, the program has now taken place in various countries across Europe, Australia, Asia and North America. With experts attending from all over the world, the aspiration is for the summer schools to include a diverse range of students from a variety of technical backgrounds. The summer school now has 708 alumni representing 60 countries with many moving on to successful careers within the CCS industry and academia.

Who can apply for the Summer School?

The target group for the IEAGHG International Summer School is young scientists and researchers, e.g. PhD or Masters students with a background in engineering, geo-technologies, or socio-economics. This can also include those in the early stages of their career (within ~10 years of graduation) currently seeking a greater understanding of CCS

2024 Summer School Application Information

The Programme

The Summer School programme covers every aspect of CCUS and aims to present the most recent information available in each field. The topics covered include:

  • All aspects of capture, transportation and storage of CO2
  • Industrial uses of CO2
  • Costs and economic potential of CCS
  • Regulations, policy and GHG accounting
  • Public communication
  • Health and safety
  • And many more topics!

Up to 50 students will be selected to attend and the summer school which will run over a packed 5-day schedule encompassing lectures, interactive sessions, a field trip and group work, along with panel discussions, networking, student presentations and career talks.  The summer school is a great opportunity for networking and informal discussion with a number of experts attending (over 20 from both industry and research) who are all world-leading scientists in a wide range of fields
