Decarbonisation Readiness Consultation – Department for Energy Security & Net Zero

The Department for Energy Security & Net Zero has published a consultation on an expansion of the Carbon Capture Readiness requirements in England and supporting technical documents.

They are seeking views on a proposed significant expansion of the Carbon Capture Readiness requirements, including removal of the 300MW threshold, the inclusion of low-carbon hydrogen as an additional decarbonisation technology and moving the policy from the planning regime to environmental permitting.

As part of this expansion, they are proposing to rename the Carbon Capture Readiness requirements to the Decarbonisation Readiness requirements, to reflect the expanded scope.

This consultation builds on a call for evidence that was held on the same topic in 2021.

The consultation closes on April 24 at 11:59pm.

Responses should be submitted via citizen space.

Or to the following email address: Electricity.security@beis.gov.uk

An open invite stakeholder workshop will be held towards the end of the consultation period.
