Dr Yiji Lu obtained PhD from Newcastle University in 2016 and was awarded a prestigious Chinese Government Award from the China Scholarship Council for his PhD study in May 2016 by the Chinese Ambassador to the UK. His research focuses on the investigation of advanced waste heat recovery systems, thermal energy storage technology and heat-to-power generation using both simulation and experimental methods.

Yiji has a strong track record of high-quality research in energy conversion systems having published over 40 articles in high-quality international journals and peer-reviewed conferences, and one book chapter on the research topic of the Organic Rankine Cycle. Since 2011, he has successfully designed, constructed and tested four test facilities (a small-scale Organic Rankine Cycle rig for engine waste heat recovery, a dynamic adsorption/desorption performance rig using low-grade heat for upgraded heat and refrigeration, a scroll expander/compressor performance rig and a thermal conductivity rig) and have written several papers based on the experimental results.


Yiji has been regularly invited to review the manuscripts for the international journals including Applied Energy, Applied Thermal Engineering, Energy (the international Journal), Energy for Sustainable Development. Elsevier gave him several outstanding reviewer awards in October 2016 (Applied Thermal Engineering), January 2017 (Applied Energy) and May 2017 (Energy). Meanwhile, Yiji serves as a reviewer for Elsevier's Science and Technology book on the topic of Energy Engineering and Power Technology. He was an invited session chair at the 9th International Conference on Applied Energy, Cardiff, UK and at the 10th International Conference on Applied Energy, Hong Kong, China, which is the largest international conference organised by Elsevier’s prestigious Applied Energy journal (Impact Factor 7.900). Since 2018, Yiji serves as a Guest Editor of the international journal ‘Energies’ (Impact Factor 2.676) and is an Associate Editor of the international journal ‘Frontiers in Energy Research’ (Impact Factor 1.52).
