Dr Goldthorpe is the managing director of Sustainable Decisions Limited, which was formed in 2015 to build on a wealth of commercial experience and research developed during the UK’s CCS commercialisation programme. In 2010 he set up the CO2 and Natural Gas Storage programmes at The Crown Estate, which owns the storage rights on the UK continental shelf, and led these until the end of 2015 after which he continued as an expert advisor. His role involved managing the leasing of storage sites and progressing the commercialisation of the UK CO2 storage resource.
Ward has 36 years’ technical, commercial and business development experience in the international petroleum and energy industries, a large part of which has been in developing upstream and midstream natural gas and LNG projects in Australia, South America, South Asia and the Middle East. He has spent the last eight years working in Australia and the United Kingdom on the full spectrum of deployment issues for transportation and geological storage of CO2.
He holds a PhD in theoretical physics from Imperial College, London and an MPhil in Energy and Climate Policy from the University of Melbourne. Dr Goldthorpe is a member of the European Zero Emissions Platform Advisory Council, the European CCS Project Network Steering Committee, the Scottish CCS Advisory Board, the UK CCS Research Centre Advisory Panel, and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
