Prof. SUN Shaozeng graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), China (BEng 1984, MEng 1987, DEng 1995). He started his academic career at HIT since 1987 and made an academic visit to Cardiff University from 1998 to 1999. He is now the deputy director of Combustion Engineering Research Institute (CERI), HIT, the director of National Engineering Laboratory for Reducing Emissions from Coal Combustion (NELRECC), and a member of the CCT Expert Group of National High-Tech R&D Program (863) of China.
Prof. Sun has been making continuous research on coal combustion, resulting in the development of HBC and RBC burner technology, ‘Air Blanketing Fuel’ combustion technology, and ‘Stereo Stage Combustion’ technology, etc., and was awarded national Technical Invention Prize of China in 2001, Science and Technology Progress Prize of Heilongjiang Province in 2000 and 2009 respectively, due to the wide application of these technologies in the industry of power generation and utility boiler manufacturing. His other research interests include the control of pollutants form coal combustion, biomass into energy via thermal chemical conversion and carbon sequestration. He published over 100 papers in academic journals and made contributions to ‘Handbook of Thermal Engineering’ (in Chinese), and patented over 30 inventions.
