Dr. Robert J. Finley is the Director of the Advanced Energy Technology Initiative at the Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois USA. Rob holds a Ph.D. in geology from the University of South Carolina, and he joined the University of Illinois in 2000 after serving as Associate Director at the Bureau of Economic Geology, The University of Texas at Austin. Rob’s area of specialization is energy resources and carbon storage, areas in which he has a combined 30 years of experience. Since 2003 he has served as Principal Investigator for the Midwest Geological Sequestration Consortium, a $100 million project on carbon capture and storage in the Illinois Basin that has culminated in the Illinois Basin – Decatur Project. Working in collaboration with the Archer Daniels Midland Company, that project will complete injection of 1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide by November 2014 at a site in Decatur, Illinois.
