MJ obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2003 under the supervision of Professors Brian F.G. Johnson FRS and Sir John Meurig Thomas FRS. In 2004 he was appointed to a PDRA at the University of Bath and subsequently to an RCUK Fellowship in 2007. In 2011 he was appointed as a Lecturer in Chemistry and in 2012 to a Senior Lectureship. His main areas of research are in the area of catalysts for chemical transformations. This includes (i) production of polylactide; (ii) upgrading of ethanol and (iii) the conversion of CO2 to hydrocarbons. He has been involved (PI and CI) with EPSRC grants totalling £4M and has led several industrial projects.
