Industrial Decarbonisation Challenge (IDC)
The Industrial Decarbonisation Challenge supports the UK’s drive for clean growth by enabling the six largest industrial clusters to decarbonise at scale. These regions—the Humber, Teesside, North West, Scotland, South Wales, and the Black Country—account for one-third of all UK business and industrial emissions.
Through £210 million in public funding matched by over £260 million from industry, the programme is building the essential infrastructure—including regional CO2 transport networks and hydrogen supply chains—required to transition these vital economic hubs toward a Net Zero future. This foundation allows heavy industry to switch to low-carbon fuels and securely store emissions.
