Westminster Employment Forum Online Conference: Green skills, apprenticeships and employment

10 March 2022

The Westminster Employment Forum is holding an online conference on 10 March 2022 titled ‘Green skills, apprenticeships and employment.  This conference will examine the prospects and next steps for the growth of green jobs in the UK.  Delegates will look at what will be needed from government – and from education, training, and industry stakeholders – to facilitate retraining opportunities and tackle critical green skills gaps in the UK workforce.

Discussion is expected to focus on strategies for:

  • aligning the education and vocational training sectors to develop a strong pipeline of the green skills needed on the ground
  • supporting businesses and attracting public and private investment
  • boosting the provision of retraining opportunities and support for the workforce

This will be an opportunity to assess the issues in the context of the significant policy drive from the Government to prepare the workforce for a green economy and ensure jobs and skills support net-zero ambitions – an aim that has been included in major initiatives such as the Net Zero Strategy and the earlier Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution.

The discussion will bring together key stakeholders and policymakers to consider priorities for reaching the Government’s goal of creating two million green jobs by 2030, as well as evaluating the recommendations laid out by the Green Jobs Taskforce and the Environmental Audit Committee following their analysis of the key challenges in this area.
