Written by Carolina Font Palma , who is a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the University of Chester and received funding to spend four weeks at the National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energy (INEEL) from the UKCCSRC International Research Collaboration Fund . Going back home is always exciting, and on this occasion it had the added bonus to visit ‘ever spring’ Cuernavaca, Mexico and join researchers working with Dr Zdzislaw Mazur at INEEL. This research visit was first planned with Abigail Gonzalez Díaz , who I met while she was doing her PhD at the University of Edinburgh during UKCCSRC meetings and has recently returned to her home Institution as researcher. On my first week, I met with Dr...Read more
I am a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the University of Chester and was awarded the UKCCSRC ECR International Exchange Fund Call 4 to visit the University of Alberta, Canada in June. This fund gave me the opportunity of meeting Dr Amit Kumar, which I only knew by his research reputation and vast experience on Energy and Environmental Systems Engineering. Returning to Canada is always very enjoyable since it brings back good memories of those good years as a master’s student at Toronto. The University of Alberta is based in Edmonton (Alberta’s capital city). Edmonton is a major centre for the oil and gas industry, called the ‘Oil Capital of Canada’ in the 1940s. The city also hosts one of...Read more

Previously I was a Research Fellow at the Energy Technology & Innovation Initiative (ETII), University of Leeds, where Karen Finney and Tom Best had earlier visited UiS to learn about their gas turbine test facilities. Since the research group of Mohsen Assadi –Professor in Gas Technology and Director of Center for Sustainable Energy Solutions (cenSE)– also has a...Read more
Written by Carolina Font Palma (Research Fellow, University of Leeds), who attended the UKCCSRC Autumn Biannual Meeting 2014 with the support of the UKCCSRC ECR meeting fund. The closing keynote session focused on FEED studies in the UK, with presentations on the Peterhead and White Rose CCS Projects. Owain Tucker (Shell) is the subsurface and wells lead for the Peterhead CCS project. He started the presentation by acknowledging climate change as a reality and the urgency for decarbonisation. He showed Shell involvement with CCS projects, such as Quest, Weyburn, TCM, Otway, Gorgon, and now Peterhead. He recounted that the Peterhead site has evolved over the years - first it was power plant firing oil, then it was converted from oil...Read more
