Best Available Techniques (BAT) information for CCS

The UKCCSRC is involved in activities with the UK Environmental Regulators (Environment Agency, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Northern Ireland Environment Agency), industry and other stakeholders, to help identify Best Available Techniques (BAT) for CCS-related technologies. Guidance for the Measurement of Emissions from Post Combustion Carbon Capture Processes – This document, from the National Physical Laboratory, provides guidance on the monitoring of emissions from Post Combustion Carbon Capture Plants (PCC) that use amine-based solvents. (May 2024)

Stationary Source Emissions – Determination of Mass Concentration of Volatile Nitrosamines from Installations Implementing Carbon Capture Systems – Absorber-based Method – This document, from the National Physical Laboratory, specifies the requirements for monitoring the emissions of nitrosamines from the exhausts of post combustion carbon capture processes. It is specifically aimed at processes utilizing amine-based solvents as the carbon capture medium. (May 2024)

Improving Post-Combustion Carbon Capture Air Quality Risk Assessment Techniques – This report, commissioned by the Environment Agency, on modelling amines (and their degradation product) emitted to air from post-combustion carbon capture plants.  The project aimed to increase confidence in risk assessments, to integrate practical tools and evidence, and to inform decision-making.
