Second FleCCSNet Workshop – Investigating transient pipeline operation issues

Workshop rationale:

This workshop is the second workshop being organised by the UKCCSRC Call 1 project FleCCSNet.

The FleCCSNet project aims to provide design and operating guidelines for CCS pipeline networks to ensure that they can react effectively to variations in the availability and flow of CO2 from capture plants whilst coping with the demands of supply to the storage site.

For a cost effective design of the whole CCS infrastructure, all the factors that will have a substantial impact on CO2 flow have to be identified at an early stage to prevent possible bottle necks in the whole chain. Identifying these factors was the goal of the first FleCCSnet project workshop, which brought together industrialists and academic experts in the fields of power generation, CO2 capture, CO2 transportation and injection for permanent storage to analyse the most critical issues that affect CO2 flow variability on various time scales. From this analysis, three onshore and three offshore scenarios were developed for detailed transient analysis. The output from the first workshop is available on the UKCCSRC FleCCSNet website.

Workshop aims:

Now that the results of the transient pipeline analysis are becoming available, the aims of the second workshop are:

  • To review and critique the scenario output from workshop 1.
  • To review and comment on the results of the pipeline transient models.
  • To provide user input into the development of further analysis.

Who should attend?

The workshop will be of interest to both industrialist and academics across the whole CCS chain who have an interest in the flexible operation of the pipeline system and want to impact and influence the latest research in this area.
