As the UK devotes more resources to widening renewable sources of energy generation, this seminar will examine the opportunities for a range of different energy storage technologies to manage intermittent generation and to ensure a stable supply of energy across the network.
It follows publication of the National Infrastructure Commission’s Smart Power report that recommends that steps be taken to encourage network owners to increase usage of storage, and that Government and Ofgem should review its regulatory and legal status. Discussion will draw on latest developments in research and innovation into prospective technologies, and look at the funding and support required to get projects on the road to commercial viability, and at options for policy.
Planned sessions also examine the integration of small scale domestic storage as homes move ‘off grid’, as well as the growing number of electric vehicle charging stations, and the implications this will have on future demand and flexibility of the network.
We are delighted to include presentations from David Capper, Deputy Director and Head of Electricity Systems, Department of Energy and Climate Change; Karl Anders, National EV Manager, Nissan GB; Professor Nigel Brandon, Director, Energy Storage Research Network; Co-Director, Energy SuperStore and Director, Sustainable Gas Institute, Imperial College London; Phil Lawton, Power Systems Specialist, Energy Systems Catapult; Judith Ross, Head of Electricity System Transition, Ofgem; Phil Sheppard, Director of SO Operations, National Grid; Carla Tully, President, AES UK & Ireland; Joe Warren, Managing Director, Powervault and Julian Wayne, Energy Storage Networks Manager, RES.
Further speakers include Adam Baddeley, Head of Energy, Eunomia; Silke Goldberg, Partner, Herbert Smith Freehills; Barry Hatton, Director of Asset Management, UK Power Networks and Dave Holmes, Managing Director, Quarry Battery Company.
Peter Aldous MP, Chair, All-Party Parliamentary Group on Energy Storage and Clive Lewis MP, Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change have kindly agreed to chair this seminar.
