Integrated life cycle approaches for understanding carbon dioxide utilisation and sequestration pathways

This joint workshop with CO2Chem discussed life cycle assessment over carbon capture, utilisation and mitigation systems.

The meeting:

  • Explored the importance of lifecycle analysis for understanding the benefits of alternative utilisation and/or sequestration pathways for captured carbon dioxide.
  • Developed an agenda for future LCA based research spanning both CCS and CDU communities
  • Examined how CCS/CDU can contribute to European low-carbon energy security particularly through supply and process chain integration with other energy technologies (e.g by using CO2 for energy storage)
  • Fostered stronger links between the CDU, CCS and LCA communities
