On 11th September, the UK Carbon Capture and Storage Research Centre (UKCCSRC) announced the winners of its latest Early Career Researcher (ECR) Poster Competition. ECRs conducting research into Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in Universities across the UK were invited to present posters detailing their projects at the UKCCSRC Programme Biannual taking place in Sheffield on 11th and 12th September.
The winners were Sergio Ramirez Solis, University of Leeds, with a poster entitled “High temperature CO2 sorption using sintering- resistant CaO/saffil fibres sorbents prepared by precipitation method”, Thomas Spitz, University of Edinburgh, who’s poster concerned Flexible CO2 transportation and storage networks: Variability of CO2 feed flows in future low carbon systems and Revelation Samuel, University College London, who presented “Transient flow modelling of CO2 start-up injection into highly-depleted oil/gas fields”.
The poster prize winners were invited to give a presentation about their research to delegates at the biannual, attended by 150 people. The poster winners covered the three main areas of CCS- Capture, Storage and Transport, so delegates were able to hear about new research taking place across the full spectrum of CCS activity. “Despite being at the beginning of their careers each winner presented with both confidence and clarity,” said Jon Gibbins, Director UKCCSRC.
